Coronavirus Updates

May 22, 2020

Thank you everyone for being extremely patient during our reopening process.  We understand everyone is tremendously excited to get back to their workout routines and deeply apologize for any frustrations our process may have caused you.  Rather than be the first to open, we have taken the time to ensure that our Three (3) Phase Re-opening Plan supports all guidance provided by local and provincial authorities as well as meets Worksafe BC requirements.  We must stress that the health and safety of our members and staff remains, and always will be our top priority.  That said, we have developed the following detailed plan for your information.  We will be remaining in constant communication with you in the coming days ahead, keeping you informed with club updates and informational videos so you know what to expect when visiting our clubs.  If you have any questions, please email us at  It will be our pleasure to assist you.  As always, we appreciate you, our amazing Gold’s Gym BC members and look forward to seeing you working out at our clubs very soon!

To Our Dear and Valued Members,

By now you may have seen some news from the United States regarding Gold’s Gym Corporate.Gold’s Gym BC has always and continues to believe that honesty and transparency is a vital part of the relationship we have with our Members, and we want to ensure that you fully understand what this means, and what is happening.

First, we want to assure you that this will in no way impact any of the Gold’s Gym BC locations (that being University Marketplace, Vancouver, Langley and Port Coquitlam). We are a locally owned business, and while we license the Gold’s Gym brand from Gold’s Gym Corporate in the United States, we are not financially tied to them, and thus this will not impact us or our fitness facilities in any way.We continue to work diligently with the Provincial Health Authorities to ensure that we are able to re-open as soon as it is deemed safe, and to put in place practices and safeguards to ensure the health and safety of our teams and our members at that time.

We want to share the information we received so that you are reassured in regard to what is happening, and that we are fulfilling our responsibility to you as our member to keep you updated.

The global Covid-19 pandemic spurred Gold’s Gym Corporate to take immediate action, including the difficult but necessary decision to permanently close about 30 of their roughly 100 corporately owned facilities in the United States to maintain the strength and growth potential of the brand as well as ensure the continued viability of the company for decades to come. They have been working to ensure that their remaining company owned gyms in the United States reopen stronger than ever coming out of this pandemic as soon as state, local and federal authorities allow.

This restructuring will not impact international franchisees, including Gold’s Gym BC, which accounts for more than 600 locations globally, all independently owned and operated.

The Gold’s Gym BC team will continue to keep you updated and informed as we learn more.Regardless of what happens, however, rest assured that your home gym will be ready to welcome you home as soon as we are allowed to open our doors again.

It is natural for you to have questions, and so we invite you to contact us at if you have any questions or concerns. You can also follow us on Social Media, if you have not already, where we will also be posting regular updates.

We will continue to offer online fitness resources (Gold’s AMP, Gold’s Gym on Demand, and more original digital fitness content)! Please visit our website, and select the “Gold’s At Home” tab. You will be brought to our “At Home” resource page which provides you with high quality audio and video coach guided fitness content!

Thank you, our Gold’s Gym Family!

April 30, 2020

To Our Dear and Valued Members,

We hope that you are continuing to find ways to stay healthy and fit while our clubs remain closed during this quarantine period.

Further to our letter, dated March 30, 2020, we wanted to provide you an update on a most recent development which has affected the reopening date of our Gold’s Gyms. We received a Letter from Martin Lavoie MD, FRCPC, Chief Medical Health Officer of the Fraser Health Authority, explaining that a Class Order has been issued for all Fitness Facilities in the Fraser Health Region to remain closed until May 31, 2020 due to the continued risk of Covid-19 transmissions. While we have seen a flattening of the curve in our province, in the both the rate of infection and hospital admissions due to the virus, the Fraser Health Authority is taking extra precautions to prevent a second wave of infection. It was noted that this Class Order may be revised, extended or cancelled by the Fraser Health Authority at any time, depending on the level of assessed risk to the public and our communities in the coming weeks. We are hopeful that this Class Order will be lifted sooner than anticipated, but that will only happen if we continue to practice the safety protocols recommended by the Public Health Authority and the rate and risk of transmission continues to decline. We will be complying with the Fraser Health Authority’s Class Order resulting in an extension of our temporary closure until May 31, 2020.

Throughout this extended closure period, all members’ club payments will continue to be suspended until our clubs reopen. Any members who pre-paid their memberships in full will have their membership expiry dates extended automatically, equivalent to the length of time we remain closed. We will notify you in advance of the date we will reopen and provide additional information on our new check-in procedures and member guidelines that will be implemented at that time and must be followed when attending our fitness clubs. These new club policies and procedures are designed specifically to keep everyone as safe as possible and to minimize the risk of Covid-19 transmission. Upon reopening, your membership will be reactivated, and our Gold’s Gym team will be on site, available to answer any concerns or questions you may have regarding your membership.

As many of you are aware, we had sent out surveys this past week, asking your opinion on what your main concerns are when we reopen our facilities. For those of you who participated in the survey, we thank you for your responses and the valuable information you provided to us. We have taken that information and have been working diligently to find solutions for the issues that were identified. Over the coming weeks, we will be in constant communication with you so you will be informed of the operational changes we will be making, the safety protocols we will have in place and the additional cleaning and disinfection systems that will be deployed when we open our doors again. We understand this is a big adjustment for everyone, but if we all adhere to the new changes it will allow us to remain open so we can continue to service your fitness needs.

To support and assist you in your current exercise routines, we will continue to offer online fitness resources (Gold’s AMP, Gold’s Gym on Demand, and more original digital fitness content)! Please visit our website, and select the “Gold’s At Home” tab. You will be brought to our “At Home” resource page which provides you with high quality audio and video coach guided fitness content!

We appreciate your continued patience and understanding regarding our required extended closure. We look forward to seeing all of you working out at our fitness clubs as soon as possible!Should you have any questions

or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at

Thank you, our Gold’s Gym Family!

March 30, 2020

To Our Dear and Valued Members,

We hope you are all staying safe, healthy and fit!  We want to deeply thank you for your outpouring of support and understanding in our decision to temporarily close our four (4) Gold’s Gym fitness clubs on March 18th, amid the COVID-19 crisis.  We believe that this timely closure was a major contributing factor in having no known cases of COVID-19 exposure at any of our four (4) Gold’s Gym B.C. facilities.

During our closure, we have been extremely busy deep cleaning our facilities in anticipation to reopen, as the health and safety of our members and staff remain our top priorities.  This past week, local health officials and government authorities ordered all “non-essential businesses” to close or remain closed at this critical time in continued efforts to “flatten the COVID-19 curve” in our communities and country. Being classified as a “non-essential service,” we must comply with this government mandate and remain temporarily closed beyond our originally indicated and scheduled reopening date of April 1st, 2020. We are hopeful that we will be able to reopen soon; however, for now, we will be extending our temporary closure until we are provided clearance from local and provincial health authorities and the Public Health Agency of Canada to safely reopen.

Throughout our closure period, all members’ club payments will remain suspended until our clubs reopen.  Once we reopen, your membership will be reactivated, and our Gold’s Gym staff will be available to answer any questions or concerns you may have regarding your membership account. We will provide you with updates on our website, our social media posts, and through direct member emails to keep you fully informed on the latest and most up-to-date developments with Gold’s Gym B.C.

To encourage and assist you in continuing to exercise and stay fit while our clubs are inaccessible at this time, we have posted on our social media pages and website a variety of Gold’s Gym fitness applications that are available (Gold’s AMP, Gold’s Gym on Demand, and more) absolutely FREE for our members during this temporary closure! Please check our website, and click on the “Gold’s At Home” tab and you will be brought to our “At Home” resource page which provides you with high quality audio and video coach guided fitness content that are educational, easy to follow, and sure to keep you motivated and moving!

We thank you for your continued patience and understanding regarding our extended closures. We are working diligently to create and provide you with more quality fitness content, resources and solutions over the coming days!

Thank you, our Gold’s Gym Family!

March 18 to March 31, 2020

Dear Valued Members of Gold’s Gym B.C.,

Gold’s Gym has been the authority in fitness since 1965, and we will continue to put the health and wellness needs of our communities at the forefront of our priorities. In that regard, we were one of the first in the industry to address the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) issue in January, and since then, we have substantially increased our cleaning efforts.

However, despite these efforts, Canada’s public health authorities have strongly recommended social distancing and explained the risks associated with crowds; therefore, it is with heavy hearts that we announce our Gold’s Gym B.C. locations in Langley, West Broadway, UMP, and Port Coquitlam will be temporarily closed effective Wednesday, March 18th until March 31st. We anticipate we will be able to reopen all of our facilities on Wednesday, April 1st, but this reopening date will be based on the state of the virus and the updates and information we receive from health authorities.

We are electing to do whatever it takes to flatten the curve and reduce the spread of the virus, much like many of the other businesses within our communities and across our country. Our demographics greatly range in ethnicity and age, and in order to protect the health and well-being of the most susceptible and most vulnerable, we know this is the right decision for all of us to make.

We have had an overwhelming number of our members express their support as well as their concerns. We know that fitness and exercise are vital to everyone, so we have tasked ourselves with creating and organizing the launch of Gold’s Fitness Online and Gold’s AMP where our members can access an online database of individual, group, and cardio workouts from our website. We are working diligently to deliver this content to you. We will have further updates later this week to keep everyone informed.

The health and well-being of our community will also include our incredible staff: the group of people that work hard every day to provide the best experience of any fitness facility. We understand that this is also a difficult time for many of them, so we will make sure that they have open communication lines for support from us and we will be doing our best to help reduce the financial stress associated with this closure.

In addition, we will be suspending all members’ dues payments during these 2 weeks. Our payment processing partner, ABC Financial, will take three (3) business days to process the holds on all membership accounts, so if you do see a charge processed after March 17th, the charge will be reversed and credited back to the method of payment that we have on file for your membership account. The expiry dates for all memberships will be adjusted for the duration of the temporary closure so this will prevent the loss of any membership duration for members who have pre-paid their memberships in full.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding during this trying time. Please stay informed about what you can do to keep yourself and your families safe during these times:  Please visit our website,, for the most recent updates. We look forward to reopening our clubs and having our Gold’s Gym family back at our facilities as soon as it is safe to do so. Take care of yourselves!

Sincerely, Gold’s Gym B.C.

March 16, 2020
Dear Valued Members,

As an additional protective measure for our members and their families, Kids Club will be closed on Tuesday, March 17th for thorough cleaning and disinfecting of all of its contents. We take the health and wellness of all of our members – regardless of age – very seriously, and we want to prevent any threat of potential spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Further details about our Kids Club and facilities will be announced as information arises from Canada’s public health authorities, and we will continue to be transparent about the decisions we make as a company and how they will impact our members.

Thank you for your understanding during these times.

MARCH 13, 2020

Dear Valued Gold’s Gym B.C. Member,

To further ensure the safety and well-being of all of our members, staff, and community due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, all of Gold’s Gym B.C.’s locations will be temporarily suspending our group fitness classes from March 16th to March 22nd so we can thoroughly clean and disinfect our Group Exercise studios and equipment within those studios. We are being pro-active, taking the necessary precautionary measures to protect and provide you with the safest fitness environment possible. We plan on reopening with full classes on Monday, March 23rd, however we will continue to diligently monitor the situation and provide further updates so you stay well informed.

We greatly appreciate your understanding
during these times.

Dear Valued Member,

We are contacting you today to provide information regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak around North America and what we at Gold’s Gym B.C. are doing in response in addition to our initial notice sent out in January.

As a valued Gold’s Gym member, your safety and security in being able to experience a healthier lifestyle have always been, and remains, our top priorities. We were proactive in our announcements about the virus when we first heard about it, and we have adjusted our operational expectations that include increasing facility cleaning frequency by both our team members and our professional cleaning services that we contract and a significant increase in our sanitary and hygienic supply orders.

What is available to you:

• Our management team is present every day during higher volume operating hours in addition to our cleaning services company to sanitize and disinfect our facilities, with primary focuses being workout equipment, studio floors and mats, common area surfaces, door handles and washrooms. Note: We use environment friendly ECOPure products that are incredibly effective at killing bacteria and sanitizing all surfaces.
• Hand sanitizer dispensers available throughout the facility.
• A fully stocked washroom with antibacterial soap.

We ask that you assist us with our continuous efforts by:

• Using the hand sanitizer when entering and leaving the facility.
• Washing your hands before and after your workout and any bathroom breaks (minimum of 20 seconds).
• Avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth as much as possible.
• Covering your cough or sneeze with your sleeve when applicable or a tissue, then throwing tissue in trash.
• Staying home if you are not feeling well.

We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation in BC and will
provide further updates as we learn more about the impact of the virus. We greatly appreciate your cooperation and assistance with us during this trying time for many people. If anyone has any questions or concerns about anything, please reach out to your home club’s manager or
